Soviet-Era Alumni Celebrated as a Living Bridge Between Bangladesh and Russia
DHAKA – The Soviet Alumni Association, Bangladesh (SAAB) celebrated its 44th Anniversary alongside the Inauguration of the 14th Executive Committee on Friday, 11 September 2026, at the Russian House in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
The event brought together distinguished alumni (Vipuskniki), guests, and members to honor the longstanding cultural and educational ties between Bangladesh and the Russian Federation.
Key Highlights of the Event
- Distinguished Guests: The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Chief Guest Mr. Zahir Uddin Swapon, MP; Special Guest H.E. Mr. Alexander Grigoryevich Khozin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh; and Guest of Honour Dr. Shahdeen Malik, founding Convenor of SAAB.
- 14th EC Committee Installation: The newly elected 14th Executive Committee members were formally introduced to the general body, marking a new chapter of leadership for SAAB.
- Fellowship & Open Discussion: Alumni shared fond memories of their academic journeys in the Soviet Union and discussed strengthening the alumni network to support future educational exchanges.
- Cultural Evening & Dinner: The formal proceedings were followed by a vibrant cultural program featuring Bangladeshi and Russian music, poetry, and dance, concluding with a celebratory dinner.
